Wikipedia is one of the most visited websites in Switzerland and worldwide – and a key source of scientific information on the internet (Science Barometer Switzerland). To ensure that research reaches people where they look for knowledge, current findings should also be available on Wikipedia. This is where our project comes in: together with Wikimedia CH, we build bridges between science and Wikipedia.

Wikipedia is still often underestimated as a medium for science communication. With our services, we encourage and empower researchers and scientific institutions to share their work on Wikipedia. In our workshops, participants gain the skills they need to become active contributors themselves. We also advise and train institutions in editing articles and organize workshops in collaboration with partners.

“Science et Cité and Wikipedia build bridges between science and the general public. That's why the joint project “ResearCH goes Wiki” has so much potential."

Diego Hättenschwiler, Wikipedian

Our services

  • Workshops at universities: Together with a Wikipedia expert, we visit university events and give students an introduction to Wikipedia. We then work together to write articles on the topic of the event.
  • Workshops and training courses for researchers and institutions: In our workshops, participants learn how to edit Wikipedia, what to pay particular attention to and how they can share their knowledge on Wikipedia.
  • Consulting for institutions: We are happy to advise you on communicating your expertise or topics on Wikipedia.
  • Editathons and editing campaigns: Editathons are events where a group of people make a large number of edits on a specific topic. We offer such events together with partners.
Past collaborations (selection):
  • University of Neuchâtel: Editing workshop as part of the MA course ‘Effective communication for biodiversity conservation’
  • University of St. Gallen: Editing workshop as part of the block course ‘Governing Finance for Tackling Climate Change’
  • University of Bern: Editing workshop as part of the block course ‘Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation’, in collaboration with the Wyss Academy
  • University of Lausanne: Editing workshop as part of the seminar ‘Michel Vinaver et le théâtre du quotidien’
  • Commission for Research Partnerships with Developing Countries (KFPE): Multi-part workshop series (online) for researchers from the Global South
