Microbes: The unseen Majority
Café Scientifique Zürich
Microbes quietly keep our planet running; without them, plants and animals, including us, could not exist. But how do we study forms of life that are invisible to the naked eye? And what do we stand to lose as microbial biodiversity continues to decline?
In this talk, we will explore the hidden world of microbes by reading their DNA, learn how global warming is reshaping microbial life, and understand why this matters for ecosystems and human health.
Prof. Shinichi Sunagawa leads the Microbiome Research Laboratory at ETH Zurich. His group's research reveals how microbes influence ecosystems, helping us to understand how environmental pressures are reshaping microbial life, and why protecting this unseen biodiversity matters.
