Rendez-vous. Researchers in conversation
We invite Swiss researchers and the population to a "Rendez-vous" in Bern. Because science needs exchange if it is to be useful to society. "Rendez-vous. Science in Conversation" is a national dialogue project of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences, the association reatch and the foundation Science et Cité. The aim is to make the importance of science and research for society visible and to shape the future of research in Switzerland in a spirit of partnership.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Swiss women's suffrage, this year's Rendez-vous was dedicated to the topic of "Science and Gender". At several discussion islands, around 30 researchers invited participants to examine this exciting, broad and highly topical subject from different perspectives and disciplines.
In September 2019, shortly before the autumn session and the parliamentary elections, a meeting zone was installed for the first time on Waisenhausplatz in Bern, inviting researchers from the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities to engage in conversation with the public. National politicians also took to the podium to report on how they see the status of science and research in Switzerland ahead of the national elections.
The talks focused on topics of the present and future that are close to everyday life: ageing, health and well-being, mobility and energy, digitalisation, beauty, and the development of our democratic society.
